🦍 Terrified Gorillas Privacy Policy
Effective Date: October 18, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Terrified Gorillas, developed by OtherStudios, collects, uses, and protects information when you play the game on Meta Quest or on PC through Steam.
1. Data We Collect
Account Information: When you sign in, we receive your Meta (Quest) or Steam account ID, which we verify with Meta or Valve, your username, and an online ID from Epic Online Services, which runs our lobbies and multiplayer.
Player Information: Your in-game name, the rooms you join, and your moderation status (warnings and bans).
Purchases and Progress: Coins, cosmetics, skins, abilities, and unlocked lore are stored on our servers so they stay available between sessions and devices.
Microphone and Voice Chat: Your microphone is used for in-game voice chat with other players. Voice chat audio is sent live to players in your room and is not recorded or stored by us.
Voice Safety Check (required for voice chat): While you use voice chat, short clips of your own voice are turned into text on your own headset or PC. Your audio never leaves your device. Only the text is sent to our server, where it is checked automatically for hate speech, threats, harassment, requests for personal or contact information, and behaviour that could put children at risk.
- Text that does not match our safety lists is discarded immediately and never stored.
- Text that does match is kept as a short excerpt for up to 30 days, so a moderator can review it.
- The Voice Safety Check is always on whenever you use voice chat, in every room, and can't be turned off. If you don't want your voice checked, set Voice to MUTED in Settings: nothing is captured or checked while you are muted.
Anti-Cheat and Game Integrity: To keep the game fair, we collect technical information about gameplay and the game itself: movement and network activity seen in your lobby, whether known cheat or mod tools are present, game version, and device type. On PC, the game uses Easy Anti-Cheat by Epic Games, which checks your game files and running software while you play.
Player Reports: If you report another player, we receive the report, both players' names and IDs, the room, and the game version.
Device Information: Limited device and connection information (for example platform, operating system, and IP address, used for rate limiting) is processed to provide multiplayer, prevent abuse, and keep our services running.
2. How We Use Your Data
- Provide multiplayer, lobbies, and voice chat.
- Identify players and verify accounts.
- Keep your purchases, cosmetics, and progress.
- Detect and prevent cheating, abuse, and harmful behaviour, including protecting children.
- Review reports and enforce warnings, kicks, and bans.
- Fix problems and improve the game.
3. Automated Moderation
Some moderation is automatic, but it is always designed to warn you first:
- Anti-cheat: If you appear to be cheating, you may be removed from a lobby. This is not a ban.
- Repeated serious issues: Repeated anti-cheat detections confirmed by different lobbies, repeated player reports, or repeated Voice Safety Check matches lead to a warning first. A temporary ban (usually 24 hours) follows only if it happens again after you have seen the warning.
- Automatic bans are marked for human review. Swearing on its own is never a reason for action.
If you believe a decision was wrong, contact us (see below) and a person will review it.
4. Children's Privacy
We take the safety of younger players seriously. We do not knowingly sell personal information or use it for advertising. The Voice Safety Check looks for grooming patterns and requests for personal or contact information, and these are flagged for priority review. We encourage parents to use the parental controls provided by Meta and Steam. If you believe a child has given us personal information without the consent their country's law requires, contact us and we will delete it.
5. Who We Share Data With
We do not sell your data. We share only what is needed with the services that run the game:
- Meta (Quest sign-in and purchases) and Valve / Steam (PC sign-in, ownership, and achievements).
- Epic Games: Epic Online Services (lobbies, multiplayer, voice connection) and Easy Anti-Cheat (PC).
- Cloudflare, which hosts our servers and database.
- Discord, where our moderation team receives report and incident notifications.
Each of these services handles data under its own privacy policy.
6. How Long We Keep Data
- Account, purchase, and progress data: while your account is active, or until you ask us to delete it.
- Voice Safety Check excerpts: up to 30 days. Audio is never stored.
- Anti-cheat records, reports, warnings, and bans: as long as needed for moderation and to prevent repeat abuse.
- Sign-in sessions: about 1 hour.
7. Security
Data is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Sign-ins are verified with Meta or Valve, and passwords and payment details are never collected by us. No system is perfectly secure, but we limit access to moderation data to our administrators.
8. Your Rights & Choices
- Mute voice chat or set it to push-to-talk in Settings. While muted, nothing is captured or checked.
- Request a copy or deletion of the data associated with you by emailing [email protected]. Include your in-game name and your Meta/Oculus or Steam username so we can find your data.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the game changes. The effective date at the top shows when it was last updated.
